Project overview
The Urgent Care Centre at Royal Berkshire Hospital has undergone a comprehensive fit-out and refurbishment, delivered by contractor Seville Developments and architect Ingleton Wood LLP, to support increasing patient demand while maintaining high standards of hygiene, safety, and accessibility in a live healthcare environment.
The project focused on creating a calm and efficient urgent care facility for patients and staff, incorporating consulting rooms, triage and assessment areas, treatment spaces, staff facilities, utilities, and public washrooms - all designed to meet the operational and infection control requirements of a modern NHS setting.
Trovex worked closely with the wider project team to deliver a coordinated package of fire-rated doorsets for healthcare, healthcare IPS (Integrated Plumbing Systems), and durable washroom solutions for healthcare environments, creating a consistent and hygienic interior throughout the Urgent Care Centre.
Fire-rated doorsets for clinical and circulation areas

Across the Urgent Care Centre, Hygidoor fire-rated doorsets were specified to support the building fire strategy while meeting infection prevention and control (IPC) requirements typical of clinical environments.
Consulting rooms, triage, and treatment spaces are fitted with FD30S Hygidoors, providing effective fire compartmentation alongside acoustic performance to support patient privacy. Vision panels with fire-rated glazing offer visibility where required, supporting staff awareness without compromising fire or safety performance.

In circulation areas, FD60 double Hygidoors were installed to maintain fire integrity across key routes while allowing smooth patient transfer and everyday movement. Stainless steel ironmongery, automatic closers, and clear signage ensure the doorsets support both regulatory compliance and usability in a high-traffic healthcare environment.
The final Hygidoor specification reflects the Trust’s focus on balancing fire performance, IPC requirements, compliance, and long-term cost efficiency - without compromising patient or staff safety.
Healthcare IPS to support hand hygiene and waste disposal
![]() | Hygipod IPS were installed throughout clinical, staff, and utility areas to provide a standardised and robust approach to hand hygiene, plumbing services, and clinical functionality. Wash hand basin pods are used across consulting rooms, treatment areas, staff rooms, and utilities, incorporating Contour 21+ basins and Markwik 21+ panel-mounted taps. Concealed services and flush access panels help maintain a clean, wipe-down finish while simplifying inspection, servicing, and ongoing maintenance. |

Within utility areas, specialist Hygipod IPS units support clinical workflows, including sluice and waste disposal functions, helping to reduce infection risk, improve safety, and support efficient day-to-day operation in a busy urgent care setting.
Durable washrooms for healthcare environments

The cubicle systems are designed to withstand heavy daily use in public healthcare washrooms, while integrated Hygipod IPS behind sanitaryware provides standardised and discreet service access without compromising the overall appearance of the space. The result is a clean, practical washroom environment that supports patient experience, infection control, and long-term maintenance. |
