Project overview

Heather Ward at King George Hospital has undergone a full refurbishment, transforming the environment into a modern, clinically efficient space that improves patient experience and supports high standards of infection prevention and control. Working in partnership with T&B Contractors, the project focused on delivering durable, hygienic and compliant solutions that aligned with HBN requirements and supported the trust's long-term maintenance strategy.

The contractor’s perspective

T&B Contractors emphasised the importance of understanding the architect’s vision and selecting a supply chain that could meet the trust’s needs. With tight programmes and demanding timescales, collaboration played a central role in ensuring that products were manufactured, delivered and installed efficiently without compromising on quality or compliance.

“We choose our supply chain very carefully, ensuring they understand HBN requirements, IPC needs, and that their products ultimately meet the trust’s needs.”
Logan McKinlay, T&B Contractors

Solutions installed

Hygipod IPS – Clinical and En-Suite Configurations

Heather Ward makes extensive use of Hygipod IPS, both as clinical wash hand basin units and in complete en-suite configurations that include the wash hand basin, WC and shower.

  • PVC-encapsulated, seamless surfaces minimise dirt traps

  • Fewer joins than traditional IPS panel systems

  • Designed for rapid cleaning and reliable infection control

  • Robust structure suitable for high-use clinical environments

Hygidoor – Specialist Healthcare Doorsets

Hygidoor was installed throughout the ward, providing a consistent and hygienic doorset solution across all clinical areas.

  • Fully PVC-encapsulated for durability and cleanability

  • Flush vision panels, including optional vision control

  • Engineered for high-traffic and long-term performance

  • Complements Trovex wall protection to create one hygienic finish

  • Mixture of fire-rated and non-fire rated

Diamond and Gallery – Specialist Healthcare Wall Finishes

Diamond wall cladding was used as wall protection, and in the assisted washroom Gallery was used to create a calming space.

  • Smooth, wipeable PVC surface supports infection prevention and routine cleaning regimes

  • Resistant to knocks from beds, trolleys and equipment, reducing ongoing maintenance and repair

  • Seamless integration with Hygidoor and other Trovex systems for a cohesive interior strategy

  • Gallery printed wall cladding transforms clinical spaces with bespoke graphics and imagery

  • Supports wellbeing-focused design without compromising performance or compliance

One hygienic finish

By installing Hygipod IPS, Hygidoor, and PVC wall cladding and wall protection, the project achieves a unified hygienic environment that is easy to maintain, consistent in appearance and built for longevity. This approach reduces maintenance downtime, supports infection prevention teams, and provides a future-proof foundation for the trust.

Project outcome

The refurbished Heather Ward now offers:

  • A calmer, more therapeutic environment for patients

  • Improved infection control through hygienic, low-maintenance surfaces

  • A more efficient working environment for clinical staff

  • A modernised space ready for long-term service
