Choosing the right healthcare IPS (Integrated Plumbing System) is essential for creating safe, hygienic, and functional healthcare environments. At Trovex, we understand that healthcare settings vary widely, so we have designed two distinct integrated plumbing systems: Hygipod IPS and Hygipod Safe.

Each system is designed to meet the specific needs of different healthcare settings. We met with Nelson in the Trovex product demonstration area, to explore the key differences between these systems.

Designed for different healthcare settings

Hygipod IPS has been designed for general healthcare environments such as hospitals, GP surgeries, clinics, and care homes. It plays a key role in infection control by providing seamless, hygienic surfaces that are easy to clean and maintain. The system enables quick installation, minimising downtime and disturbance on-site. Highly configurable as clinical wash hand basins, Doc M packages, janitorial units and more.

In contrast, Hygipod Safe is used throughout mental healthcare facilities where safety is a paramount concern. Designed specifically for settings that support people with challenging mental illnesses, this system integrates anti-ligature features to reduce risks associated with self-harm or harm to others. Hygipod Safe balances safety and hygienic performance, creating safer environments for both patients and staff.

Anti-ligature features and safety

A defining feature of Hygipod Safe is its fully anti-ligature design, developed in collaboration with mental healthcare trusts. This includes flush-fitting access hatches and a specialised bracketry system that prevents any item from being pushed beyond the panel’s depth, eliminating potential ligature points. These design elements are vital for mental healthcare environments, where patient safety is critical.

Hygipod IPS does not incorporate anti-ligature features, as these are not required in general healthcare environments. This difference highlights the importance of selecting the appropriate system based on the specific healthcare setting and the needs of the patients or staff using the space.

Compliant sanitaryware

Both Hygipod IPS and Hygipod Safe support a range of fixtures and fittings, tailored to their respective environments. Hygipod IPS is supplied with healthcare compliant sanitaryware ranging from clinical wash hand basins to troughs.

Hygipod Safe is supplied exclusively with anti-ligature sanitaryware, ensuring compliance with mental healthcare safety standards.

Durability and cost-effectiveness

Durability is a vital consideration when choosing healthcare IPS. Hygipod IPS offers high durability suitable for all healthcare environments including high-traffic areas. The system provides excellent value by reducing installation times and providing immediate access to services through hinged access doors.

Hygipod Safe uses enhanced materials designed to withstand higher levels of physical abuse possible in mental healthcare settings. While this may involve a higher initial investment vs. Hygipod IPS, the increased durability and safety benefits support patient safety and long-term cost savings by minimising repairs and replacements.

Installation and support

Our modern alternative to IPS panels are designed for straightforward installation.  From clinical wash hand basins, to troughs, Doc M packages and complete mental healthcare washrooms the Hygipod IPS and Hygipod Safe range are tried and tested.
